I wrote the following for my own benefit: so that I could remind myself from time to time of what really matters:
Investing is hard, particularly if you would consider making a profession out of it. Every finance professional in the world likely considers himself or herself to be a good to great investor. And there are a large number of finance professionals…
Nevertheless, a good investor must necessarily have the following attributes:
Humility: the foresight to understand that not everything can be known or synthesized. Or what might be “known” is subject to change as change is all around us and things change by the minute
Self-Knowledge: what one’s strengths and weaknesses might be. And where might those strengths and weaknesses present themselves
Integrity: Acknowledge and learn from mistakes. Every one makes mistakes and the trick is make less mistakes than successful calls
Courage: The ability to risk appearing to be a fool since markets cannot be timed and will likely throw one for a loop, mistakes are likely to happen. But if there is conviction, one should not be shy.
